The Waiting…

4 06 2008

Anticipation.. How tantalizing that anguish it is!

Counting seconds as you await the hues in the sky to bend into your will, praying in lame desperation for hours to vanish without cognition, warding the quiet despair that’s creeping into your soul with a naive faith in heart and a wry grin. Time seems to be churning its longest hour and waiting seems like the hardest part of life.

The sun has slipped his tether
And galloped down the west.
(Oh, it’s weary, weary waiting, love.)
The little bird is sleeping
In the softness of its nest.
Night follows day, day follows dawn,
And so the time has come and gone:
And it’s weary, weary waiting, love.

The cruel wind is rising
With a whistle and a wail.
(And it’s weary, weary waiting, love.)
My eyes are seaward straining
For the coming of a sail;
But void the sea, and void the beach
Far and beyond where gaze can reach!
And it’s weary, weary waiting, love.

– Paul Laurence Dunbar

Sometimes I do wonder why is that the longing or the waiting for something so intense a feeling than the fulfillment of the desire? Why do those yearnings for somethings and anticipation of many nothings ache so much in heart even when the conscious mind does acknowledge that the fulfillment may not lead to consummate happiness? Why is it that the sweet throb of anticipation never matches the satisfaction of the accomplishment?

Life seems to be on swirl, caught in run amidst the seeping sand in the hourglass.

I find the ‘wait’ to be a sweet one when you know the outcome…as true love never fails to come back! The entire universe works in accordance to the laws of nature to bring to you what you truly desire with the purest intensity and intention…

In my opinion, there’s a bit of a difference, may be just semantic difference, between waiting and anticipation 🙂 I believe it’s related to what the outcome is going to be. I have found sometimes that waiting can be frustrating too!

Why is it that the sweet throb of anticipation never matches the satisfaction of the accomplishment?

Well, usually it’s the journey and not the destination that counts, or something liek that 🙂

@ Rambler
Lack of anticipation,, Feeling completely home with oneself..Savoring the joy of moment without burdening it with expectations.. Had those blissful moments too.. I relish them to the core.
@ Joyeeta
How true. Beautifully put. I take whatever you said on faith and hope. Somehow that’s all I can offer now.
@ Vamsi
Waiting does intensify the anticipation of the outcome. And outcome partly is a matter of chance indeed. Agree. Very frustrating at times!

The waiting or anticipation of something or someone is a form of desire..
It is not always painful though.
But waiting is when you do always not know what will come in front of you.
But anticipating is that form of desire when you have a tight feeling inside you that “yes, i know this will happen” or ‘yes, she will come or she will call me or she will atleast reply to my message”

And anticipation is like a one sided hourglass with unending flow of sand.
If you have to over come this desire, you have to put a finger on the open end and let it fill and burst.

When waiting for an anticiapted thing happens, our condition is hapless.
But when the waiting ends in only dark light and the glass of anticipation breaks, you come out of the cube of illusions and take tough decisions.

@ Constantine
Subdued desire.. Unexpressed wishes.. One cannot always put their finger on them. I guess those undeclared wants have their own way of finding their outlet..
@ ctone
Thankyou. Yet, tell me this, will u wait if you know the outcome?
